An UNSPONSERED product review of Bona Hardwood Floor Polish

I don’t usually do product reviews, but when I do, it’s because I found a super-spectacular deal in a clearance bin. Today I am trying out Bona Hardwood Floor Polish with High Gloss Shine. It claims to, “Extend the life of your floors’ finish, protect against wear, and renew dull floors.” It is important to note this is not a sponsored review. I purchased the floor polish with my own money at a greatly discounted price. So, here I am trying it out on my hardwood floors and letting all you fine people know what I think. 🙂

Current Condition of my Floors

All things considered; my hardwood floors are in fair condition. We moved into our home around 22 years ago and promptly pulled up the carpet. We never had the solid wood floors, underneath, professionally finished. I did, however, sand the entire wood surface by hand with an orbital sander. This removed shallow surface scratches and stains. In addition, I added a few thin layers of water-based polyurethane floor sealer. That was probably 10 years ago. The floor has endured spills, heavy objects being pushed across it, a full-grown Newfoundland, 2 beagle puppies, sloppy, snowy shoes, and a family of four, amongst other things.

Why I’m Trying Out Bona Hardwood Floor Polish

To be honest, I would prefer to have our floors professionally sanded and finished. That is not in the budget right now. I considered re-sanding and sealing by hand, but that was a long, tedious, messy project. The floors are quite livable but are showing wear around the entrance and dining room area. I don’t like the idea of leaving the worn areas unprotected. I’m hoping this product will fill in the gaps where the polyurethane is beginning to fail. It would be nice to have a little extra layer of protection on the surface.

Preparing My Hardwood Floor for Bona Hardwood Floor Polish

The product directions are quick to point out this is not a floor cleaner. They go on to suggest using Bona PowerPlus Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner. I didn’t find the cleaner on clearance; therefore, I will not be using it. Instead, I am using my regular floor cleaner. I will make an extra effort to deep clean the floor by using a microfiber cloth by hand. So, from the get-go, I’m not following instructions. 🙂

Applying Bona Hardwood Floor Polish to my Hardwood Floor

Reading ahead, the directions say to leave the floor undisturbed for 24 hours before resuming normal activity. To which I threw my head back and laughed hysterically! Who on earth has time to allow the central part of their house to remain undisturbed for 24 hours? I opted to cover just enough boards to step over to slither around this recommendation. If they do well, I will do enough to step over the next day and so on. I have no doubt 8 little beagle paws, 4 tiny chihuahua paws, and 4 prickly kitty paws will cross those boards numerous times before 24 hours pass. We’ll see what happens. Here’s hoping for the best with what I have to work with.

Hardwood Floor Results After Using Bona Hardwood Floor Polish

The product doesn’t do anything to physically fill in or hide deep surface scratches. It does, however, bring back a gorgeous shine to the otherwise dull worn floors. In the picture above, you can clearly see the difference in the treated verses untreated side. Overall, I highly recommend this product. I have now had it on our living/dining room area floor for over three weeks. The surface continues to gleam.
