What does the best sink and bathtub cleaner have to do with anything? I mostly blog about finding a new purpose for items you already own. Sometimes it is upcycling or refurbishing. Other times, it’s using a product for a purpose totally different than intended. Today involves the latter. You will be surprised to see how well this personal care item cleans your sink and bathtub!
The Best Sink and Bathtub Cleaner Isn’t Harsh or Harmful
I have never been a fan of strong chemical smells or harsh ingredients. I guess that’s one reason I became an organic skincare formulator. Not much risk of blowing anything up or passing out from fumes in the lab. 🙂 The same holds true in my own home. I am, admittedly, not the best housekeeper. There are, however, certain areas that I am “crazy woman” picky about keeping clean. Two such surfaces are sinks and bathtubs.
Why I Needed a Better Way to Clean the Bathtub
My obsession with clean bathtubs began when the girls were babies. I couldn’t bear putting them in a tub with any trace of a ring or skim around the bottom. I obsessively scrubbed, rinsed, and repeated until the bathtub shone like treasure from a sunken pirate wreck. My back would ache, my hands stayed irritated, and I hadn’t even begun all the bath-time fun. Whew! I get tired just thinking about it.
A Better Option for Keeping the Sink Clean
Then there is the bathroom sink. Beautiful white porcelain, until it is used. Toothpaste, grit, and grime from all my fun projects, and who knows what else gets stuck and doesn’t look pretty. It stays at the forefront of my mind because that sink will inevitably be used by guests. I love seeing my friend’s crud on their sink when visiting…” thinks no-one ever”
How I Discovered the Best Sink and Bathtub Cleaner in my Home
I tried several store-bought scrubs. I resorted to “magically” erasing the scum with a little help from the follically impaired cleaning guy. That did work, but one use is all you get, then you have to throw the silly thing away. Then, one day, my Prince Charming unknowingly provided the ideal solution. All he had to do was wash his hair.
Finding the Best Sink and Bathtub Cleaner in my Home
My husband began shampooing with a generic product containing zinc. His intentions were to tame flaking, particularly on his scalp. The product also mentioned shoulders. In any case, I noticed dazzling white patches of porcelain wherever the shampoo splashed onto the tub. Could it be this simple?
How to Use the Best Sink and Bathtub Cleaner
Grabbing a washcloth, I dampened it with warm water and added a bit of his shampoo. Swiping the sticky blue shampoo across the surface, I beheld a snow-white wonder. I proceeded to wipe and rinse the entire tub. I couldn’t believe how shiny and clean the tub was with such little product and effort. The sink was a cinch to clean as well. All of this, thanks to my prince’s flakiness. 🙂

I hope you find this simple cleaning tip helpful. I know it changed the way I clean. Our bathroom is currently in the beginning stages of renovation. Once everything is done, I look forward to shampooing our new tub and sink. See this and other updates on the weekly Sawdust and Cornbread YouTube Channel post.
Until next time, put on a grin and start right in.
